On August 11, 2004 on “Late Night with Conan O’Brien,” head carpenter John Harty, Jr. announced that he planned to fill his retirement days writing a book. The book he produced is a hybrid combining two of his favorite interests: colonial American history and the production of motion pictures. While Mr. Harty was employed as a stagehand at NBC for thirty years, he also pursued his interest in history by earning a BA at St. Bonaventure University and an MA in political science at Fairleigh Dickinson University. Mr. Harty was admitted into the PhD program at New York University where he earned an additional 32 credits in the field of Russian history with a secondary field in English history.
